- A welfare-to-work city agency or job training program calls to reserve a makeover date for an upcoming group of graduating clients.
- Based on the date of the makeover, an appointment is made for an initial consultation presentation. During the consultation, a staff member or volunteer image consultant ascertains exactly what styling services the client needs.
The consultation includes the following:
- A decision regarding the client's hair what hairstyle will best suit the client and the potential job should the client trim, cut, color, or process hair;
- A decision about the client's skin care and make-up what skin products and makeup will best suit the client and the potential job;
- Style Overview business suit, accessories, nail care, and hygiene. Suggestions will be given to the client to achieve a fresh and professional look. The client also has the opportunity to request accessory items (jewelry, handbag, shoes, and/or hair ornaments) to complete their interview wardrobe;
- Interview etiquette a short discussion will take place regarding research on the interviewing company and the interviewer, follow-up thank you cards, and any questions that the client may have on the interview process as a whole;
- The client fills out an application and receives a sheet containing their appointment information, including the date, time, place, subway directions, and our cancellation and late policies.
- In the salon environment, each client will receive hair styling, skincare services (analysis, waxing, facial), and make-up application. During each stage of the makeover, the client is given helpful tips so that they can duplicate the stylist's efforts at home, as well as receive the make-up (foundation, powder, blush, eye liner, mascara, lip liner, and lip stick) that was used during their session. In addition, each client receives hair care products, grooming supplies, and the requested accessories items to take home as well.
At the end of the day, we provide each client with three self-addressed stamped thank you cards for their hair stylist, make-up artist, and the salon owner. We ask that they write a note of thanks and send the cards within 24 hours.
- All clients are eligible to enroll in the mentoring program or book club.
