General:
How long has styleWORKS been in existence?
styleWORKS began assisting women on the journey from welfare to
work in October, 1999.
How many clients have received makeovers?
Since our inception, we have provided over 1000 makeovers.
How often does styleWORKS provide its services?
Every Sunday and/or Monday, when our participating salons are
closed.
Volunteering:
Are volunteers important to styleWORKS?
Volunteers are the life of the organization. styleWORKS relies on
the generosity of hundreds of individuals who give back to society by
donating their talent and creativity to our clients. Without volunteers,
there would not be a styleWORKS.
What type of volunteer opportunities are available with styleWORKS?
Our core group of volunteers are hair stylists, make-up artists,
and salon owners.
Do you have to be a professional hairstylist or make-up artist?
Yes. As I am sure you can understand, we only utilize licensed
and professional practitioners.
How can you help if you are a salon owner?
As a salon owner, you can donate your space to styleWORKS once a
month. We will bring volunteers to provide the services and the product used
for the makeovers. The only thing we ask of you is to use your stations,
hairdryers, and sinks.
Who else volunteers for styleWORKS?
Another important volunteer job are our salon coordinators.
These individuals help us to coordinate the entire day by checking in
clients, taking before and after photos, ordering lunch, assisting the hair
stylists and make-up artists, passing out handouts, and organizing each
client's product to take home and much more! This volunteer job really
allows people from all walks of life and differing professions to contribute
to the organization.
Are there any other ways to volunteer with styleWORKS?
Yes. We welcome individuals to contact us if you are interested
in providing administrative skills or event coordinating. We will happily
contact you when these skills are needed.
Where do I need to live to volunteer?
Currently, we can utilize hair stylists, make-up artists, salon
owners, and salon coordinators now who live in or around New York City.
However, we welcome individuals to contact us if you are interested in
volunteering in the future in Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, D.C.,
Philadelphia, or Detroit. Administrative volunteers are sometimes utilized
from other cities.
How do I become a styleWORKS volunteer?

job-training program with one of styleWORKS referring organizations and are
at the point of interviewing for employment.
